Ski trip: winter sports Dolomites (South Tyrol)

IMAG2061

This year we decided to go for skiing to the Dolomites (South Tyrol), our reasons for this choice:

1200 km Piste : Dolomitisuperski
good connected ski resorts
piste low (blue) to high level (black)

We were looking about 4 weeks before we started for a hotel. Because I love local food and not like cooking in the evenings (OK and because I can not cook 😉 we checked out half board and a family owned hotel were the chance is higher that they serve traditional food.

Our choice was the Hotel Digon St. Ulrich, Gröden: a family owned small Hotel with local bio food and super good winesI can recommend the hotel, cause it has the perfect size (around 40 rroms), not to small, not too big. The rooms are in a traditional Südtirol/Austrian style.(wooden interior). The interior looks quite new, the rooms are extremely clean, no noise at night. You have an own parking place, a heated lock for the shoes. Every morning you get a high quality breakfast, only some fresh fruit we missed. In the evenings you get a 4 courses meal: This is mostly meat, but you can also ask for other options if you don’t like, they take care of the guests and their wishes,  But be ready: one evening they offered cooked tongue to us…

The hotel has no own spa area, but you can use the amazing spa in the village (5 minutes by car) on your visit for free. Only disadvantage is connection from the hotel to the ski area: you depend on the bus, which just stops 2 times an hour. To the Sellaronda the drive is one hour with one bus and one bus change, which was a bit too long drive for us. A good way to ski the Sellaronda without bus stress: Take the car and drive to „Plan de Gralba“ and park your car for around 5€ a day there. It’s relaxter than the ski bus.

Skiing areas:

Sellaronda: an amazing tour but for me as a beginner a quite demanding round trip, takes around 5 hours.

Corvara: a relaxed skiing area. You can go from St. Ulrich to Corvara by care, which is around one hour. There you can ski theGebirgsjägertour. We just skied half of it, because we started to öate. BUt also the half of the tour I can recommend to you.

Seiser Alm: For a Sellaronda recover break day the Seiser Alm „Hexentour is great“, in this area you also find very good huts for lunch. Our favourite restaurant: Gostner Schwaige Seiser Alm guests told us the owmer is  a star cook. Try the Heusuppe a herb bread soup and the Kaiserschmarrn (mmmhhhh).
