Christmas shopping in New York City

solo travel | 5 days | December 2014

flight: direct flight with airberlin from Tegel to JFK, costs: around 400 €
travel guide: rough guide New York City
accomodation: Airbnb flat in East Village: a perfect location where you find nice bars, clubs and restaurants. Costs were around 70 € per night in a shared flat:

„I must say it was one of the best travel experiences I’ve had so far. I lived together with two super relaxed guys. My NYC-guys gave me tips for restaurants, bars, cultural hot spots and other sights. Definitely better than just  staying in an anonymous hotel room and trying to explore the “big apple” just on behalf of  your travel guide! Thanks to you guys!!“

Bars | Thanksgiving | Christmas shopping

Bars and restaurants in East village:
Ivan Ramen: come here for super Ramen,
Cafe Pause NYC: perfect for a snack or a detox drink:

What to do on Thanksgiving?
Macy’s street parade: it’s fun to see this parade. If you want to be in the first row you should be on site quite early (best before 10 a.m.)

Christmas shopping:
Macy’s: opens at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving. so you can live your dream of shopping the night. I spent a fun shopping night and filled up my wardrobe with lots of quality pieces for a reasonable price. Don’t miss it!

My ‚must see‘ in 5 days New York City

# A nice walk on the high line with a stop at the Gagosian Gallery that you find here: location Gagosian or at at one of  the many other NYC galleries (be careful and don’t spend too much money ;). Afterwards you can drink a coffee at the Chalsea Market 16th/17th street / 10th Avenue

# for sure you should spend a day in the Museum of Modern Art or better known as MoMa (thanks to my Airbnb mate Kertis for this advice!)

# if you are a “sex and the city” fan, don’t miss Carry’s house: Carrie Bradshaw house

# for the best pancakes ever go to the sunburst espresso bar (great tip from my mate David, thanks!)

# classic but a must, enjoying the view from the Rockefeller Center, which took mea few hours (buy ticket, line up etc.) but was worth it.

…The best way to explore the big city is to  stroll around and discover areas like Brooklyn, the WRT, Upper West Side, Central Park and much more.
